Happy Birthday Megan!

On Saturday it was Megan's birthday! My baby girl is now 12 years old... YIKES!!!

This was her gift - a very "grown up" big girl bike... now we just have to teach her how to work the gears!

When my parents decided three weeks ago to jump in the car and join us for the weekend, I decided that would give me enough "adult support" to tackle an Amazing Race Birthday Party. Luckily, I already had all the clues, etc. on my computer from 2 years ago when I did Taylor's AR birthday... I just had to change things up a bit, so my own kids wouldn't feel like it was a carbon copy from Round One...

This is probably the only party I've thrown for Megan in recent years where the boys wanted to participate. They didn't want purple bandanas, so they got out their scout bandanas and dubbed themselves the "huskies"....

Clue #1 had them unscrambling an address in our neighborhood, then finding that address and getting the next clue...

Clue #2 had them going to our neighborhood sign to find the next clue hidden in the bushes...

Clue #3 had them go back to the house for the "detour"... answer 3 questions in Spanish or Jump Rope 50 times. Here's Megan and her partner finishing up the jump rope challenge.

Clue #4 took them to the playground to dig for their clue in the sand.

Clue #5 was a geography challenge - match 10 state capitals with the correct state. (This challenge proved to be most difficult for the boy team... 8th grader + 3rd grader = frustration!)

Clue #6 sent them back to the house to fish a clue from the bottom of the swimming pool.

Clue #7 sent them to the finish line in front of the house.

We finished up with pizza, chips, soda, cake and ice cream... everyone was stuffed!!!

Happy Birthday Megan! You are such a joy to have in our household. You have such a caring and loving spirit... you are always happy and have hugs for anyone that needs it. We love you!

What a great party! I was hoping you'd post about it because I was trying to figure out what an Amazing Race party would be like! You guys are great parents and how fun that the grandparents got to be there, too.
